In 1868, Hugh and Ophelia Ernsting bought the cabin from Sarah Doty. Their daughter, Alice, was married at the "Grand Loggery" on Nov. 18, 1874. They lived in the cabin until 1875 when they sold it to John Roberts.
John Roberts hired architect William Waters to design his resort. The resort opened to the public on May 30, 1877. The resort was built next to the Grand Loggery property. The first floor of the Grand Loggery was used for card games and pool tables, the "rainy day" house for the resort. The bedrooms served as housing for hired help from the resort. Additional buildings were built in 1885 by including some additional cottages for visitors to rent.
John Roberts died in 1895 and his wife ran the resort for a few more years. She sold the resort and property with the cabin to John Strange.
